This Project aims implementing a virtual campus on Second Life. It was built in the scope of the Master’s Degree in Multimedia Education and Communication at ESES, but it is now opened to all the student community. It is coordinated by the teachers Maria Barbas e Jean Campiche.
This Project aims:
· Provide adequate training to all the team that belongs to the project (namely in the domains of building and designing in SL, Linden Scripting Language and Machinima),
· Design the Campus for Escola Superior de Educação de Santarém in Second Life (SLESES);
· Implement and program the objects on the virtual campus;
· Conceive and implement promotional videos in SL;
· Conceive and make available help manuals for young residents/visitors of SLESES.
It was made a work team for pluridisciplinary work contemplating some teachers (that must coordinate and dynamize the group to which they belong, these are: Ana Loureiro, António Andrade, Dina Aguiar, Jean Campiche, José Nunes, José Soares e Maria Barbas) and also a vast number of students. This team will conceive, develop and implement all the virtual campus of SLESES.
The team was divided in 5 distinct work groups, made by their needs and specificities inherent to the project. It is important to note that the team was made only with volunteers. Beside the teachers, it counts with students from the Master’s Degree in Multimedia Education and Communication, from licentiate in Multimedia Education and Communication (day and night courses) and from licentiate in Plastic Arts and Multimedia. We will have a team made by 40 elements working so that SLESES fulfills its objectives.
To create and dynamize SLESES, were defined 4 areas/groups:
· Scripting, to program the objects and behaviors of the avatars;
· Building & Design, to build all 3D objects, conceive, design and built new objects and spaces;
· Multimedia (Machinima), to conceive videos and multimedia contents to be showed on virtual world;
· Helpdesk , to dynamize and promote interaction between the school and the virtual campus;
At a posterior phase we will have a 5th team that will be held responsible for the evaluation, implications, influences and potentialities of Sleses on process f teaching-learning. This group will be coordinated by Maria Barbas (aka Rocio Barbasz) and Ana Loureiro (aka Anitia Loire). We will try to understand if, as Wagner says (2007), we can consider that Second Life is “an ideal pedagogical resource” [4].
